Review Sanrenmu 710 / 710LUC-SA
Introduction
Although quality Chinese
companies take several years on the market, until today I think it may be true
the following statement: if Enlan has as a icon its model EL01 and Ganzo the
G704, the icon of Sanrenmu is the 710 (with permission of the 763 model, it
also became an icon of the brand over time).
It is true that in recent times Sanrenmu
It has renewed its models, its steel used, and even the logo and other details
of their blades, but certainly the model 710 has been iconic and one of the
reasons that people began to talk about Sanrenmu together with the dearest 763.
This model is known as “Poor
Man's Sebenza” for its resemblance to the model Chris Reeve sebenza.
Exterior design and appearance
The model presented is the
original, the first produced, the classic model 710, but after the renewal of
the brand it was renamed to 710LUC-SA, however the appearance is the same
except in the print of the blade with the new logo and other text or symbols.
OverView
Today there are several
versions of this knife, with a little variation in color of the blade and the
handle or adding a graph. Some variations are: 7010-LUI-SGX, 7010LUI-SH1 or
7010LUQ-SW. This model is completely in stainless steel with steel color and
with a textured on one of the “liners” of the handle based on dots that makes
it even more beautiful and it doesn’t improve thr grip really, It is more
aesthetic otherwise, also it has lanyard hole too.
Handle detail
The size of the knife is average,
well, also it depends on the person because for some it will be small, others
medium and others too big, as everyone thinks, but I think that can be
attributed an average size. The full length is 16.5 cm with blade of 7 cm and the weight 89 gr.
The blade shape, made of 8cr13mov
stainless steel, is “drop point” type but with a slightly touch of “clip point”
at the end of the blade, it is hollow grind and it has two thumb studs for
opening with one hand.
We have a considerable thickness for its length of 2.4
mm, and the truth is that once again we found a knife which if built on a
larger scale would be very serious, we can call it a knife with more classic
look for the absence of G10 on the handle but with all the other qualities that
would have a tactical knife, so it is a smaller version of what would be a
serious knife. Of course we have a jimping on the blade, although it hasn’t too
much curvature, It is very well designed in terms of the separation of the
steps and helps a lot if we use, it isn’t an ornament.
Good thick centered blade for its size
Blade detail
We must talk about sharpening
factory, truly spectacular and together with the Sanrenmu 9063 surely sharpest
knives Factory i've seen. It is so sharp that you must be careful when
handling, first because a small knife is harder to manage than a large because
the handles are smaller and cost more open with one hand (by the way it opens
very well, with a hit with the finger without having to shake the wrist), this
coupled with both Sanrenmu as Enlan give an extra touch to the tip, I've
noticed when analyzing different models than they have especially sharp tips, with
more material eaten, that makes any friction with the tip on the skin cut it like
butter.
View from above
The locking system is also a
pleasant surprise, it’s a thick “frame lock” that full of confidence, without
any kind of blade play, fitting perfectly well on the blade, i’ve seen thinner “liner
locks” in much larger knives, which says a good thing for this model.
System lock detail
The
“pocket clip” is soft, which it is fine for convenience when putting it on
thick fabrics, It is perfectly polished and well screwed by 3 screws.
Pocket clip
In general the fit and finish of
this folder knife is very good, everything is polished, everything is softened,
there isn’t sharp “liners”, you can appreciate quality by touching. The only
bad thing I found were a few small scratches on one liner of the handle, appreciable
close or with direct light and that at the end of the blade opening in the last
section, it rubs a little, there is an element that touches too, I do not know
if it is due to the washers, by the way one is copper and the other plastic or
Teflon.
Handling
Handling is good, without having
a particularly anatomical handle. Small and medium knives have the problem of
the length of the handle that being shorter on hand costs a bit more to handle,
but a touch with your finger can open it full without using the wrist. The grip is not very good because
the handle are made of steel and the texture that have on one side does not
help much, but the jimping is good enough to hold when you use force.
As EDC knife is very good, for
different tasks, not just peel fruit, because it has a strong locking system
and blade enough for other things, even for working a little wood.
Final verdict
A classic from Sanrenmu, this
brand in the beginning became popular thanks to its model 710 (from this review)
and the 763 model with “axis lock”. Perfect EDC folder knife for wearing, a
classic but very nice design, we really wear a true knife, like a strong big
folder knife, in a small space and with a small weight, It is a smaller version
of a knife which lacks for nothingTherefore perfectly appropriate, plus the
price it is a bit lower than other newer models from Sanrenmu.
Pros:
- Very nice, enters the eye.
- Very good system lock with“frame
lock” sure enough, and no blade play.
- Features a tactical knife but
with a size content but with an aspect not so scary people to be more
classical.
- Low price even in the Sanrenmu
category.
- An interesting blade and with a
slight touch of “clip point” on the blade and a good thickness even near the tip.
Cons:
- Rubs slightly at the end of the
blade opening, I do not know if it touches too with copper washer.
- Minor scratches factory in one of
the handles, otherwise normal because it is all steel, if it was made of G10 it
doesn’t notice.
