Sanrenmu S725
Introduction
Sanrenmu is one of the chinese companies with the highest reputation in
cutlery, that's not new. And it has many models of knives wanted by the public,
but it has always had a problem with those that we have liked pieces of good
size and it is that it has used to manufacture until now knives of small or
medium size almost always.
A few years ago, i thought that given the quality of Sanrenmu, it should
try to make knives, which would be great to see. That moment has arrived...
So far, among the knives that have been released lately, the one i liked
the most was the S625, but it suffered from the usual, a small size, but when i
saw that there was a bigger version i went for it, the S725...
Exterior design and appearance
The first thing i have to say is that there are several new Sanrenmu knives
that attract me, but this is the one i most wanted to try, the big version of
the S625, which is the S725.
The S725 comes in military green and black, curiously the S625 only sold in
green, blue and brown.
It is a full tang knife with an anatomical handle, with a large blade width
and huge guard that comes from the blade itself. I love her aesthetics.
The stone washed blade, with partial flat grind, is made of 8Cr14Mov steel
and with a very particular design because it combines a large width of blade
with a good power of penetration, since its "drop point" tip falls
quite to the tip.
The handle is also curious, it looks anatomical and with a hole in the
middle, but for me it was a simple aesthetic detail until i took the knife, in
the handling section we will see it. Actually, even though the knife is full
tang, the steel of the handle is drilled with several circles to lighten weight
and the hole in the handle that is visible has been achieved by drilling the
G10, but there are more holes that cover the handle grips. I personally would
not have shown the hole.
Also at the end of the handle we can see the glass breaker, which by the
way is different from the S625. I like more the one that has been put in the
S725, more pointed and effective when concentrating the energy in a smaller
point.
Of course, being a knife we must talk about its sheath, which we will
discuss in the section on handling and use, anticipate that it has a different
thing to what we usually see in cases of this price range.
Even being the big version of the S625, this S725 is not a big knife at
all, it is of restrained measures for what i understand by "restrained",
the size of a typical Ganzo knife for example or another similar brand (but with
wider blade). Let's see its measures:

Management and use
The knife once in the hand is not very balanced, has the balance a little
behind the center, the handle weighs more than the blade, i see that the handle
adapts very well to the hand. The G10 texture of the handle is something smooth
and porous, it seems that it is fashionable lately to make the G10 textures
like this, offering an adequate grip, but not huge either.
There is one thing that i did not like about the handle and it is the hole,
aesthetically i do not care, but when you grab it the finger that goes to that
area puts something in the hole and you notice it, there would also be at least
1 cm more length for my taste.
The blade intimidates, is very wide and with power of penetration, i see it
excellent in the hand. The huge guard of the blade makes you feel very
protected and does not slip your hand towards the blade and as a curiosity,
instead of having a "jimping hump" like many folder knives and fixed knives,
it has a "slit with jimping" but that it really ends in
"hump". That cleft has the exact shape to support the big toe and
offers good control of the knife. The jimping has a good grip without being the
most aggressive i've seen.
The knife in the hand fits superbly, like a glove.
The factory sharpening that i have found is exquisite, very sharp on the
whole useful edge.
With a blade that is not long and about 4 thick, I think it can withstand
hard tasks without much trouble.
Regarding the case, is made of kydex, with hole for drainage, tactical
aspect and something that we had not seen so far in the blog, with a support
that turns 360º, allowing to put the knife horizontally, vertical or diagonal.
The support of the sheath that goes in the belt is plastic, in general the sheath
is suitable to these price levels and what we usually see in other quality chinese
brands at low price, however, has the advantage of 360º axis . I have also seen
that the subjection of the knife is excellent, so much that it is too hard and
you have to be careful because you have to do a lot of strength to take it, at
least the first few times of use, not sticking out if you shake it upside down.
Final verdict
I am delighted to see one of my dreams come true, and that was that
Sanrenmu started making fixed knives. I really liked the S625 in design, but
when i saw the S725, which is the larger version, i knew it would be the first
Sanrenmu knife that i would try (although there are others that i would also
like to try).
Large blade width, very good penetration, very anatomical handle, good
spine thickness and kydex sheath with the possibility of turning 360º (you can
put it vertically, horizontally, diagonally...). An aesthetic that i really
love.
As negative aspects, the hole in the handle bothers me something because it
gets a little the finger when grabbing it and the sheath is too hard to take off
the knife comfortably.
It seems to me a very good knife, which offers a strength blade due to its
thickness blade and partial flat grind, good cutter for its blade width and
also with good penetration for having a "drop point" with a
significant drop. I can recommend it without problems and the quality of
construction is excellent.
I will be very attentive to any new knife that they take, apart from the
fact that there are others that i would like to try.
What i liked the most
- It has the aesthetics that i liked the most of all the knives Sanrenmu
has put on the market so far.
- We have already reviewed other good knives in the blog of Ganzo, Hx
Outoors or Cima, but none of them has a sheath with support for 360º rotation.
- I like the blade a lot, it is not easy to see a blade being a good cutter
because of its Blade width at the same time strong because of its thickness blade
and partially flat grind and on top with good penetration due to the fall of
the "drop point" tip. In addition, the guard protects a lot by being
so big. It has also come with an exquisite sharpening.
- I must also highlight the handle, anatomical next to the excellent jimping
that feels in your hand like a glove, but i would put it at least 1 cm longer
and cover the hole.
- The sheath holds the knife very well. What is also a contra because it is
very hard.
What i liked less
- I do not like the hole in the handle because when holding the knife the
finger of the hand that falls in the hole gets inside a bit. I would also have
placed at least 1 cm more length on the handle.
- I like the sheaths that hold the knife well, but in this case you have to
do too much force to take it.
- Sanrenmu has left a very good taste with its Sandvik 12C27 steel in some
of their folder knives, they could have also used it for their fixed knives (almost
all use 8Cr14Mov).
