CH 3504
Introduction
Today we are going to see a special folder knife for several reasons, the
first one is that we launch a brand on the blog, specifically we are talking
about the CH brand.
We all know already at this point of the magnificent pieces that have
offered us brands like Ganzo, Sanrenmu... that fall within the category of good
quality chinese brands at very contained prices. But among the chinese brands
there are beginning to be some more "premium", with a somewhat higher
price but increasing its quality as well. CH is one of them, let's see what
this premium brand offers us...
Exterior design and
appearance
First of all, i have to say that the original model CH 3504 was a high-end
model with titanium TC4, bearings, "frame lock" and high-end steel
S35VN, having a cost that exceeded 80$. Well, now CH has taken that model and
made it more affordable for the public, the price has been reduced a lot (less
than half the price) in exchange for removing the titanium and using D2 steel
(also very good) instead of the S35VN, has also replaced the "frame
lock" with a "liner lock", the rest is tremendously similar.
What we have in front of us is a really beautiful knife in design, for me
one of the best of CH, although there are others that i also like.
Attractive model with a stonewashed blade with big blade width, almost
complete full flat grind (these two characteristics make it a good cutter) and
small back edge with "drop point" tip in D2 steel and "flipper”
for opening. We do not have “thumb studs”, which in combination with the
"flipper" you already know is one of my favorite aesthetics.
This version, which is not in titanium, has been added handle scales in
G10, which certainly is appreciated that there is variety in choosing their
color, since we can acquire it in: brown, black and green jade (that as soon as
i saw it in photos, it was the chosen one, it attracted me a lot). In other
models of CH i have seen that you can choose colors like orange or blue, but
not in the model we are analyzing. I like very much the grip of the G10 texture.
Also note that to lighten weight the "liners" of the handle are
drilled, also quite.
If we look at the measures we find:

Management and use
I'll start talking in its opening form, because the
"flipper", if you notice, has a curvature more pronounced than what
is usually seen, this makes the finger "hook" easier and does not
slip when pulling backward.
The opening is smooth,
VERY smooth thanks to the bearings, and you can also close it with a few slight
movements in the knife, with the locking system off of course. However, i hear
the bearings creak somewhat when opened and closed. It is a pity for the set so
good that the knife offers.
In the hand it feels
good, and one of my concerns was if i would bother with the knife opened the
"flipper" with that curvature, the answer is no. When grabbing it we
have a superior "jimping" with teeth too far apart and rounded, with
little grip, i prefer a more aggressive " jimping", with more grip,
but it is better than nothing, although in my opinion it is almost useless.
We have a strong blade,
with a very important thickness and that being of morphology "drop
point" will be multipurpose, it will make cuts with ease and we will also
have an acceptable penetration. With that blade width so big and flat grind
almost complete we have an excellent cutter. I have found myself with a very
good factory sharpening, i'm short, among the best I've received.
I can not find vertical
or horizontal blade play and the centering of the blade is ok.
Although the
"liners" of the handle are quite drilled to lighten weight, the
structure of the knife is not compromised, among other things by the separators
that leads between the "liners" that reinforce the set, in addition
to the same color as the handle scales.
The locking system
"liner lock" is in a correct position, although it is a bit on the
outside, but it will be corrected with the use. It has an acceptable thickness
although it could be thicker for that blade it brings.
Final verdict
CH is a more premium
brand than others like Ganzo or Sanrenmu, also of higher price, but has tried
to give us its high quality in a more affordable model for the pocket by
eliminating titanium and S35VN steel. At least i'm delighted that they try to
get models at more affordable prices closer to the normal brands we're used to
seeing.
Quality finishes,
bearings for maximum smoothness of opening, good steel D2, an aesthetic that i
particularly love.
I'm just going to say one
thing: i'm going to try that is not my last CH knife, i'm looking forward to
try the other models that have this price. Highly recommended
What i liked the most
- Great general
aesthetics, like when you see it in photos. Also you already know what i like
the "flippers" without “thumb studs” on the blade.
- Even though i love this
design in any color, jade green has me trapped.
- A great option to try
the CH 3504 model with titanium and S35VN steel for less than half the price,
but in G10 and D2 steel version.
- Of which it draws a
smile on your face when holding it in your hand.
What i liked less
- The "jimping"
of the blade i prefer it more aggressive, with more grip and with teeth more
together.
- Although it is very smooth
opening, i hear the bearings creak somewhat when opened and closed. It is a
pity for the set so good that the knife offers.
