Review 3 legends of Sanrenmu

Review  3 legends of Sanrenmu

7023 LUC-SA / 7045 LUC-PH-T4 / GB4-913P

Introduction

Today is a special day in the blog, we are going to do a triple review on 3 authentic Sanrenmu legends.

There are knives that sell a lot, coveted, but a legend is something else, they are classics of a company that have marked their legend with fire. Logically, they must have enough years to achieve that status.

Let's start:

Exterior design and appearance

7023 LUC-SA

It is not easy to talk about classics that have become a legend, but I will try. We are facing a folder knife made entirely of steel (and i love folder knives all steel and in that color, like the 710/7010), possibly one of the most elegant Sanrenmu has in its catalog with that feature. It is a knife that is practically the same as the Buck 327 Nobleman, with some slight difference.

It has a classic style, very elegant, but in reality it could be a tactical knife if it had a larger size, it does not lack any feature for it.

The handle all in steel with double tone adds to the beauty of the set, although some people have criticized the slogan written "stainless steel folding knife in stainless steel", i particularly don’t care if it is written or not, although it is somewhat redundant because it is evident what it is.

It should be noted that there are many variants of this model 7023, as it is a classic, over time have come varied versions of the same, with a coated blade in black or with other textures of color in the handle.

The 8Cr13Mov steel blade is a fairly pointed drop point with a hollow grind, the truth is beautiful. The factory sharpening resulted in good and the blade is almost centered.

Use a "frame lock" quite thick, which also the "pocket clip" (screwed by three screws) pushes to give it some more strength.

The measures are:

What can be said of this multi-purpose knife that is so appreciated? Well, it became in its day in a classic by its own merits, and over time, Sanrenmu pulled out other multi-tools with similar format due to its success. By the way, you will see that it is very similar to the Boker Plus first responder, practically the same.

We have on our hands a knife of small dimensions (but the same as the newer Sanhermu multi-tools) with a certain tactical aspect, consisting of a main blade, two rear tools with "thumb studs" without blocking consisting of a belt-cutter and a bottle opener with flat screwdriver included (there is another older version with can opener instead of bottle opener).

The handle is composed of FRN (reinforced nylon with fiberglass) with a curious design, similar to the texture of golf balls, the grip i can define as aggressive. Finishing in the handle we have the glass breaker, which can not be missing in any multitool.

Regarding the 8Cr14Mov steel blade and hollow grind with "drop point" tip, since we are in the design and appearance section, i must say that for me it is the most beautiful multitool blade and that attracts me most of all has done Sanrenmu. In fact, it could be with a larger size perfectly a tactical knife, and not only that could be, is that there is a larger model, i'm talking about the Real Steel M21 model. The factory sharpening as i have been able to prove is pretty good and the blade is almost well centered.

The locking system is a "liner lock" and as i said before, the two rear tools do not have a lock (like all those that Sanrenmu has made until now).

The measures are:

This knife was very coveted at the time because it was one of the few models of Sanrenmu with a large size, which is something that many have asked the brand for years. Note that this knife is not Land, it is Sanrenmu, one of the very few "large" size models that it has made in its history.

The appearance of the knife is ALMOST tactical, and then i will explain the "ALMOST".

In principle the knife oozes tactical airs for each pore, the black color predominates throughout the body, handle and blade, even the "liner lock" is that color. Let's say that it gives the feeling that we are with something very serious in our hands, a folder knife that isn’t fooling around…

But let's continue ...

The handle in G10 is really good, the same as the Benchmade Vex (i do not say similar, i say THE SAME), but not the "pocket clip", which is different.

And the blade... here i wanted to arrive, since i have seen that in some places they call it "combat knife". Gentlemen, this is not a combat knife, it is more, the design of the blade is the opposite of a blade for self-defense, and even less for combat / military. That is not to say that it is not useful, simply that it is not for combat. I hope i have clarified the "ALMOST" that i mentioned before.

Going back to the blade, and i think it's the first time it happens on the blog, we have a "Sheepfoot" tip with a partial flat grind, with an important spine thickness close to the tip, that coupled with the design makes it precisely a blade with little penetration power, but with a very strong tip. The steel used for the mixed-edge blade is 8Cr14Mov.

The factory sharpening for the plain edge part is great, and for the serrated part the best one i have tested to date. The blade is perfectly centered.

Finally, to say that there is a version with non-coating blade and plain edge but only for the German market, and at a price about triple that this one at the time.

Management and use

7023 LUC-SA

Although it is a very nice knife to see, let's see how it results in the hand: The handle in steel does not have a great grip because there is no porosity or texture, it is normal clear, although it can not be described as slippery, this happens in knives of this type of construction.

In the hand, for the size, shape and being all in steel reminds me a little to the mythical 710/7010, although i find it with worse ergonomics due to the absence of “hump” and “jimping” on the spine.

We can open it with the “thumb studs”, which with a the metal washer we obtain a fast opening.

The thick "frame lock" transmits security, with a position while the knife is open very good.

Due to its dimensions, i see it as suitable to carry around the city, it is comfortable and elegant.

7045 LUC-PH-T4

I can not avoid having it in my hand to remember the excellent Sanrenmu 7098, so i am going to do this section comparing them:

The first thing we notice in the hand is that the FRN touch of the 7045 is different, it does not have the feel of the 7098 in G10, but the grip is good for those little golf ball holes. The adaptability to the hand is somewhat better in the 7045 than in the 7098.

We do not have "flipper", so we have to open it with the "thumb studs", being the opening smoothness good but with a with a somewhat high blade retention.

The tools that it brings have a retention in the spring very similar to that of the 7098, although it does not have the double function in each one like this one. In this model 7045 we have no wood saw, but the main blade for me is the best aesthetically of all the models that Sanrenmu has taken out in its multitools, it is a magnificent cutter but also strong and with penetration capacity with its false back edge.

GB4-913P

I have to analyze its use and handling from a knife point of view to carry out tasks, not from the point of view of a combat knife because it is not, no matter how much it is put in some places.

The handle in G10 seems excellent, with great degree of ergonomics and good grip for its texture, the same as the Benchmade Vex, in the hand feels very good and gives us confidence.

The opening with the "thumb studs" is very fluid xxxx, carrying a metal washer at least, leaving the blade secure thanks to the good "liner lock", and the truth is that i see it as a work tool with that "sheep foot" tip, notice that the edge has little curvature and the tip grows with a large angle upwards, that is, we have more angle from above than from below, which makes it a bit more like a" cutter ", excellent to open boxes, seals etc. dragging the tip.

I'm not a fan of mixed edges, but i must admit that the serrated part is the sharpest i've seen so far, although it's true that i do not have many mixed-blade blades, but that's the data, it cuts the serrated part very well, it's something.

Final veredict

7023 LUC-SA

If you like whole steel knives like the 710/7010, this knife must be had. I even find the 7023 more elegant and pretty than the 7010, although the latter i see it with better ergonomics for its “jimping” and hump on the spine of the blade. Good lock "frame lock", very cutter blade, good penetration, but at the same time type "Knife of knights", which should allow to carry it without problems in the right places without causing alarm.

What I liked the most

- I am very attracted to its design since always, i see it more beautiful and elegant than the mythical 710/7010 (not so the ergonomics). If you like knives all in medium-sized steel, this is for you. Probably the most beautiful all-steel knife made in Sanrenmu.

- Strong frame lock.

What I liked less

- I miss the hump or “jimping” of the 710/7010.

7045 LUC-PH-T4

We could define it as the classic multitool of Sanrenmu. After this model, the brand has released several more models because people also like to have knives that bring several tools at once, apart from the normal ones of one blade.

I prefer the added tools of the current models because they bring two functions each and saw for wood in some models, but i love the main blade and i think it is the one i like most of all the Sanhermu multitool models.

Excellent quality own brand.

What i liked the most

- I love the main blade because of its design and its false back edge, it is the one i like most of all Sanrenmu's multi-tool models.

- The FRN texture of a golf ball seems very interesting, good grip and aesthetically attractive.

What I liked less

- A "flipper" would have been great.

- One of the two tools that it brings do not bring double function as the most current models (for example, the hook cut-belts is not screwdriver at the same time).

GB4-913P

One of the desired knives of Sanrenmu for being one of the few "large" size that they have manufactured. VERY tactical aspect in black color, coated blade, mixed edge... sold as a combat knife, but nothing further from reality, the type of tip does not help the penetration and is a type more like a sailor's knife to another thing.

But that this is not a combat knife does not mean it is not useful in other tasks, I see it for work, that tip with so little curved edge makes it great for opening boxes, seals etc. as a "cutter".

What I liked the most

- I really like the tactical air that transmits everywhere... except for the tip.

- It has a smooth opening, very fast.

- It has one of the best “thumb studs” i have tried in terms of grip and that it doesn’t hurt.

What I liked less

- It is a pity that with the tactical air that you have, put a "sheep foot" tip, more typical of another type of knives.

- I will never understand why the version of full plain edge and non-coated blade has only been available in the German market, when it would have sold very well in the whole world.
