Review Inron MY803
Introduction
Today we present a very particular knife, it is
a model of the Inron brand, which emerged some time ago. The legend says that
was forged by employees of Enlan, but can not affirm or deny.
The Inron brand appeared relatively strong in
the market with some interesting models of low price and good size, and a steel
used above average as in the example that we bring today.
However I must say that today, and especially
after the huge rise in popularity and models of the Ganzo brand, is quite in
decline in sales. But let's see if still worthwhile or not...
Exterior
design and appearance
The first thing that drew attention in the
design is that it can remember the model “Hinderer xm-18”, but neither is fully
copy, and the second thing is that draw attention visually at first sight is
quite large, but i would say more due to the handle than anything else,
although it is true that globally is greater than many other models, for
example it is clearly larger than an Enlan EL01, which has a respectable size. This
model can be chosen in various colors, and as you can see, this version is
orange.

Really, and it's just my opinion, i think that
much of the cost of the knife went to the blade, we must recognize that they
have hit the nail on the design as it is very nice, with a slight softened back
edge, hollow grind and a good wide blade with a classic “drop point” design. Although
the blade may seem large, that it is, is not the same "large" than
"robust" and in this case we can only attribute the first adjective. The
tip is very thin, joined to a hollow grind, so be careful with it. The blade
once closed is perfectly centered, perfect. By the way sharpening factory was
bad, below average, had to be sharpened.
Blade detail
Something that many caught their attention is
it brings a opening "flipper" (besides thumb studs, with a
questionable design for the health of the fingers), really very few large size
models of any chinese brand will bring us a "flipper", and it's a pain
because i think it is one of the easiest and most comfortable ways to open a folder
knife. Clearly comes to mind the Enlan EL01 that also shares this mechanism.
Knife measures are: 10 cm blade, total length 22.5
cm, blade thickness 3.4 mm and a weight of 158 gr on our scale.

Blade centered
About the handle with orange G10, I do not see
it very good because you encounter various problems: on the one hand the height
difference of principle regarding the end of the handle is too big and a bit
annoying, that initial cleavage choil type i think it should be less deep, and
then the handle is very narrow, much, It has not been given curvature to the
G10 part to fatten a little and the steel “liners” of the handle are quite
narrow (therefore the “framelock” too), so you do not have a good feeling to
get him, it is too narrow. In addition G10 texture is minimal and does not help
to have grip.

Handle texture detail
A design fault, or rather in the design
implementation is the “framelock”, doesn’t fit over the entire base of the blade,
in the section on "handling and use" we will analyze in depth this
topic because i think it affects more to the handling (which may fail blocking)
that the appearance of the knife.
"Framelock" does not fit over the entire base of the blade
Handling and use
One use we should avoid is giving tough tasks,
bushcraft and that sort of thing, because the tip is quite thin and hollow
ground, so it would not be advisable to pry, the tip will break easily. To
pierce and to cut yes, and it’s very good cutter due to the hollow ground and
the good steel that it has, but don’t use for hard tasks.
It should not be used for "batoning"
or give a hard treatment to the tip but of course we can sharpen sticks, use in
food tasks and everything that comes to mind.
As for handling, the flipper and framelock use lead
with regard to handling, it’s smooth, with copper and plasctic washers but
there are some problems: the slightly conical shape of the "thumb studs"
does a little damage to the fingers, also because the blade retention is high
and the force to be applied to open do the "thumb studs" sink in the
finger too much. If we use the “flipper” the thing goes better, but due to the
retention of the blade i did not notice as smooth as in the Enlan EL01, which
can be opened with the "flipper" without moving the hand wrist action
nothing.
Another problem i see is the “framelock”, Rather,
it is a shame to be so narrow but the worst is that does not fit properly on
the base of the blade, i do not know if it will fail or not if we force it but
of course i would trust more in a "framelock" thicker and, speaking
in terms of physics, the entire force
exerted dissipated across the base of the blade, not at a point or smaller area
because this will help mechanism fails.
In the next picture we can se as the
"framelock" of an Enlan EL08 fits over the entire base of the blade and
how the Iron My803 touch only a part where all the force is applied.
“Framelock” Enlan EL08
vs Inron My803
Final verdict
A knife with an adjusted price, larger than
usual, with large handle, blade with good steel and beautifully designed, but
the implementation has some problems such as the inconvenience of the handle
and a locking system based on "framelock "where the "liner"
is too narrow to be the "framelock" on a knife of this size, and more
importantly, it does not fit perfectly on the base of the blade distributing
the forces exerted. Such things do not help to create fame brands.
However, if it is for a good price, i think
it's worth having it and try it, but better not use it in hard tasks, because
the blade is not very strong.
Pros
- A beautiful blade, long, very cutter and with
a good steel 9Cr13Mov.
- The handle is longer than in many chinese knives
models, which is much appreciated.
- An affordable price for its size and steel.
Cons
- Weak blade for hard work.
- Thumb studs do some damage to the finger for
its shape and because it has quite retention blade and the “flipper” due to
this retention blade it is not as smooth as the Enlan EL01.
- The handle is not achieved. Annoyed at hand for
having too much difference in height between the beginning and the end and also
be too narrow in its entirety. Nor texture gives good grip.
- “Framelock” is too thin but the worst is that
it is not perfectly fit on its base, not distributing the entire force exerted
well.
