Review HX Outdoors D-161
Introduction
Hx Outdoors is a company that does not take long in traditional Chinese
stores, but it has made a niche in the market thanks mainly to its variety of fixed
knives. It also has folder knives, but what most differentiates it from other
brands is that they have focused a lot on taking models of fixed knives.
Let's see how is the tactical knife model D-161...
Exterior design and
appearance
Although in the market of the cutlery abound especially models oriented to
bushcraft, that is a fashion that floods everything, it is necessary to
remember that another typology exists in cutlery, tactical, military, of
hunting... in the model of today, I believe that it is seen that it is a
tactical "pure race".
Global view
It is a knife with an impressive appearance, distills tactical character
everywhere, starting with a somewhat aggressive style, but without going over
(in my opinion). Its structure is full tang, which gives it maximum strength.
Full tang
The handle is very anatomical and is made of K10, a material different from
the G10 that we usually have in the scales of the folder knives, for example.
The K10 is a material that in my hand did not seem very different to the G10.

Detail of the texture of the handle
As for the blade, it has a classic "drop point" morphology with a
false back edge, but with an aggressive tip that facilitates penetration, it
also has a fairly generous blade width and a partial flat grind. The steel used
is the 440C, having a good blade thickness of 3.7 mm, which is more than enough
for a tactical knife, although we are accustomed to thicker bushcraft knives,
but they are two different things. The factory sharpening seemed to me medium.

Good thickness for a tactical knife
There is some detail that i do not like, but it is merely aesthetic, and it
is the firearm drawn on the blade, i think it was not necessary to put it, with
the legend "tactical knife" it was enough.

Regarding the sheath is made of kydex, which is a material very appreciated
by many people and that usually fits very well with the knife, in the section
of handling and use we will analyze it.

Comparative
It is curious to see two knives with legends "survival knife" and
"tactical knife" and see their differences...

Management and use
The truth is that the handle has a good shape, is quite anatomical and i
think it may be the longest i've reviewed to date on any folder knife or fixed knife.
Moreover, it is even possible to catch it in advance or behind for chopping due
to its length.
It has a very interesting feature that other handles do not have, and that
is that it has a protuberance in the final part that helps the hand does not
slip back thanks to that "top" with which we come across.
One thing is that the handle adapts very well to the hand and another is
its grip, in that aspect i found acceptable according to its texture.
The blade has an excellent penetration but it is also useful in other
tasks, since the "drop point" tips are very versatile.
Blade with good penetration but at the same time versatile
On the blade we also see some details like 4 holes, which in my opinion
does not take much weight and is purely aesthetic, a generous guard, essential
in a tactical knife so that the hand does not slide towards the part of the
blade when you nail with the knife, and a hump to support the finger but it has
no jimping, i would have put a jimping to improve the grip. Said hump has a
very steep angle, i understand that it is designed more to support the finger
to make force when you are stabbing with the blade than to make force for the
cut down.
Hump and guard

Hump without "jimping"
It is a strong knife, with a good weight and very suitable for tactical
subjects.
The time has come to talk about the sheath: it is the first one we review
that is kydex and it is supposed to fit the knife perfectly. The reality is
that pulls out and gets well, without getting stuck when putting it as it
happens with other sheaths as you go, however i notice slack with the knife
inside, can move a little and sound something, for example the Cima 1 is moves
less inside the sheath.
Within its sheath
The way to use it is with a plastic bracket attached by two screws to the sheath,
where a belt would be inserted and the bracket would be closed. I particularly
would have liked another type of bracket, or that was made of metal or joined
by 4 screws instead of two.
Sheath with the shape of the knife
Closed belt support
Opened belt support
Drainage hole for accumulated water
It must be said good of the sheath that is small and discreet.
Final Verdict
Within the universe of quality Chinese cutlery it is not easy to find
tactical or military knives, and even hunting, it is usually very oriented to
bushcraft, so i am delighted to see a knife different from what is usually
seen, with other characteristics for tactical tasks, but that has a degree of
versatility also important and there will be no problems in using it in
addition to process food or work wood.
I love its tactical aspect, its strength, the handle with a length that
allows to have two types of grip and with a final "top", the blade
aggressive but at the same time useful for various tasks and a sheath in kydex
that is not easy to find in knives of this price.
If you like its appearance, i can recommend this knife without problems for
all its virtues. In my case, he is one of those who have drawn me a smile when
holding it in my hand.
The best
- An impressive pure tactical aspect. I love.
- I like that it has a generous size for what is usually usual.
- The handle is very good, for anatomy, grip and the final "top".
It would have been incredible if they had put a glass breaker behind the handle.
- Kydex sheath, which is not easily found in these price ranges.
- A pretty generous guard, very appropriate for a tactical knife and also
upper hump (but without jimping).
Worst
- Its appearance can be aggressive for some people and you should not show
it according to what sites.
- I do not like that a firearm has been drawn on the blade, but it is
simply aesthetic.
- I would have liked a "jimping" on the "hump" on top
of the blade for better grip, they have left it smooth.
- I do not like too much the plastic support for the belt held by two
screws of the sheath.
