What folder knife to choose I

What folder knife to choose I

A question so difficult to answer such as "buy me an iPhone or an android?" only with more nuances even as the number of models is endless. The first thing to say is that there is no perfect knife, but some are near to what you want than others. Issues such as size, form length, weight, materials employed, blade thickness or steel choosen are some of the characteristics that we should ask when choosing.

EDC

Many people seek a "EDC" (every day carry) which is a daily blade and you want carry always, small size and weight which serve to open a package, stuff like small rope and not a boat rope. For these purposes can serve almost anything but keep in mind that if it is too small and does not to disturb to carry it can be uncomfortable when using it because the handle is too short.

There are many models that would be impossible to describe but in terms of quality / price I would recommend some "sanrenmu" as the models 710, 723, 733 ... I do not want to speak of models in this article but i put some reference. A length of 16 or 17 cm and total about 7 cm blade for me would be acceptable, although we can find much smaller models but i don’t agree very much with them, i see it discomfort and unhelpful, perhaps to carry around without noticing that it will be used can be fine, but if you know for sure that will be used i prefer more versatility with a larger size.

Eternal debate: serrated blade, pearly, plain or mixed

I think this debate is one of those that has no solution even take years, and each person may think differently, but we begin to define each concept while we analyze its useful:

::Plain edge

A plain edge is one that does not have bumps on the edge, this will make clean cuts without tearing and is clearly the type of edge more versatile, will allow us to cook, cut meat, peel fruit, cut slices of vegetables and anything but may blunted by cutting fibers, for example bread, bread knife is serrated for a reason and that is that the blade can slide or grab the bread, which is fibrous, but spongy air inside. The ropes are a typical example of material that in theory is not ideal for a plain edge and yes for a serrated edge blade, that in theory ... because of course when you see one blow cut a rope hanging or a knock on a table if the cutting edge is sharp, enter the question that is not suitable for such activity.

An important advantage of the plain edge is that you can sharpen comfortably with a stone grinder or other while with serrated leaves or pearly it will be more difficult, not impossible.

Definitely a disadvantage is the ability to lose the sharp edge as a plain edge lose much, much more easily than a pearly blade and much more than a serrated edge.

::Pearly edge

A pearly edge is like one serrated but has less pronounced teeth, is softer, and of course the border where a pearl edge finish and a serrated one begins is a bit fuzzy.

Its usefulness is cut fibrous material without teeth too nailed in the material and prevent the advance, it will advance more smoothly than the serrated edge but will not slip as much as the plain edge.
