Review Harnds CK6015 Viper
Introduction
This time we bring you the latest
surprise in the world of quality chinese knives of a relatively new brand: Harnds.
This company came with their models "nyx", "knight",
"pandora", "viper" and "blazer" in general the
reviews of these models are good and the two higher-end models are
"viper" models "blazer" in which G10 handle quality and
improved steel makes its main stars. But surely the model "viper" is
one that has had the greatest fame and number of sales, and it is what we will
analyze.
Exterior design and appearance
There are two versions, the viper
CK6015 classic and the viper CK6016 "black mamba" whose difference
with the CK6015 is it brings black coated blade and handle with mixed edge. Its
design is out of the ordinary, many say it has a classic design, and when I
hear this "classic design" comes to my head the old knives, when
there wasn’t "tactical" concept, wood or plastic handles, weak
locks... i think even though at first glance may seem classic, if we look a
little more closely we see that is a wolf in sheep's clothing and it could be
well a tactical knife as I'll show below:
Overview
The first thing you see is a G10 handle,
with a very good grip, better than many others that are called
"tactical" but without hurting your hand or be very aggressive grip. But
best of all is that the handle has a curvature on the sides which makes it very
comfortable and nice to have on hand, the sides is the best I've felt, and
everything for having rounded and no flat as they have done in other knives.
Handle detail
We
have a 9cr13mov blade steel that is the very best of budget Chinese steel (and
the 9cr18Mov), tempered fine as ever of course, but it's something much
appreciated to be a higher level steel. As for its size and weight it has 154
grams measured in scale, a total length of 21.0 cm, with a blade that measures
9 cm and a blade thickness of 3 mm, I always appreciate the blades reach at
least at 9 cm, which is not so easy.
Wide top blade
The “liners” aren’t drilled but I
know that the new consignment has been produced and they are drilling the holes
for lower total weight on the new version. In my case I prefer the strength to
weight, but many people prefer less weight and to lose strength, so that's the consumer
tastes. The thickness of the "liners" (with sharp edges without
sanding) is very thick, a bit of the style of the Enlan EL01, so the
"liner lock" is too.
System lock detail
View from above
The most important feature of the
blade and that most attention is certainly a full flat gorund, hard thing to
find in chinese quality brands, its morphology is a "drop point" but
very mild, it is almost a “spear point” blade and rather narrow.
Blade detail
No coating but its brother CK6016
has it, what makes it even more tactical side, the blade is steel colored
without mirror effect and we can find a open disc instead of the typical thumb
studs for opening and closing the blade. An open disc like somebody against
thumb studs, i personally think that the thumb studs is best for fast open with
a fingernail, but the open disc has better grip if you do it with your
fingertip. We do not find any jimping on the blade or on the handle so it does
not invite to do much pressure to make a cut.
It has a cord hole and and the clip
is quite long, smooth lines without sharp edges, but with excessive pressure, it
is very high on the handle and this allows us when we use it that people don’t
see anything of the knife, in other models that is screwed down if you use it
in a pocket people we see part of the knife.
Clip
The pivot screw to adjust the
knife is a "torx" which is perfect. We can say that there were a
couple of things from factory that i did not like: the blade was not well
centered but adjusting the pivot screw and lubricating the pivot the centered has
been quite acceptable. The other thing was that the sharp was really bad, below
average, but i know that the same model can sometimes comes to shaving, so it's
a lottery. I've also seen people with problems to leave the blade centered in
this model.
Look recap, we have a G10 handle with very
thick liners and system "liner lock" very thick and strong, almost
spear point blade, full flat ground and very narrow blade (which improves
penetration): still looks so classic? or more like tactical?.
Handling
My experience with the knife has
been good, quick opening with a finger without moving the wrist and practically
almost negligible lateral play on the road, although I tried to completely
delete it, to do it the blade is too hard to open with comfort so it is better
to open it comfortably and have an almost almost nonexistent blade play.
The lock system is perfect, the "liner
lock" rests entirely on the blade without leaving anything out without
goes too deep, it is practically as i like a “liner lock” Works, i see it very
strong and can make the knife suitable for hard work, but the blade is not as
strong as others due to the full flat ground, but in exchange this will improve
the cut.
The Verdict
Pretty good, steel quality above
average, good grip and anatomical handle, full flat ground makes it suitable
for fine work like peeling thin slices of fruit or food or anything but neither
will have problems with tough jobs such as wood, hard rubber and so, but for pry
will be less strong than others with flat ground from the middle of the blade.
Pros:
- Full flat ground highly prized
and coveted by users.
- Anatomical handle and very good
grip.
- Very strong lock system and well implemented.
- Ideal for slicing food, fruit
peel ... but also tactical use.
- Price content for a knife of this size and quality of steel.
Cons:
- Missed jimping for add force to
cut.
- Open disc will not like to everybody.
- The weight may be excessive for somebody.
- Clip too tight and hard.
