Review
Sanrenmu 9015
Introduction
At last the day that many dreamed has arrived. After so many years making
knives that everyone loved but were of medium or small size, they decided to
make the leap to bigger knives and compete directly with what we already know
as Ganzo, Harnds, Y-Start and so many others
Everyone knows that Sanrenmu is a special brand and after so many years
waiting it finally happened. Let's analyze one of its models, the 9015...
Exterior design and
appearance
The appearance is that of a folder knife all in steel, I have said
sometimes that this type of knives attracts me and that's why I have some like
that, one of the last was the Land 9104, which is manufactured by Sanrenmu
although the brand is different, but the comparison with it will be left for
another time.
I see beauty in its design, at least it is what inspires me to look at it,
this model is available in two versions, with a black finish and a cloud gray
finish (literally that), as has happened on other occasions, I prefer the
finished in gray.
Once open the knife, which takes bearings by the way, we have a "drop
point" blade with a nice false backedge that runs along most of the spine.
The used steel is the beloved Sandvik 12C27 from Sanrenmu, with a really good
performance. Remember that the type of steel is one thing and the heat
treatment and tempering of this steel is another, Sanrenmu does know how to
treat steel.
The opening can be with flipper, which is one of my favorite opening way in
a folder knife, but also has thumb studs, unfortunately they are the same as
those of the Land 910+ and 9104 (slippery) but we do not have the same problem
because those Lands do not have a flipper and this one does. The blue of the thumb
studs looks good on the gray color of the knife.
The handle is made of 420 steel with some circles on the surface that
generate a pattern and that embellish the whole, is a detail that I like a lot
and makes it less sober than the Land 9104. Between the two "liners"
of the handle we have a separator in G10 that ends on the outside at the end of
the handle, giving an aesthetic touch to the whole.
The "liners" of the handle are semi-perforated only because there
is no G10 to cover it, it is all steel, the "liners" compose the
handle.
To me, in general, it looks like a knife that transmits beauty, like a
jewel, because it is all in steel and its forms.
The knife has measures that will please lovers of restraint. If we look at
the measures we find:

Comparative
There is no doubt that it has to be compared with the Land 9104, but I
think I will make a complete comparison at another time, so for now, let's see
the two rivals...
Management and use
We have the folder knife closed in the hand, very nice indeed, it's time to
open it, we can do with the thumb studs or the flipper, I will always use the
flipper. The bearings that goes with it effectively slide the blade and do not
need to do a wrist movement to finish the opening process. The thumb studs are
the same as those of the Land 910+ and 9104, I do not like them because of
their slippery shape.
We can generally talk about one of the best openings I've tried. The Blade retention
is simply perfect, it does not open itself by shaking it and at the same time
opening it with the flipper is a delight. It is not easy to see a folder knife with
such a perfect balance between blade retention and opening smoothness, I assure
you that this is one of the best opening experiences I've tried.
The flipper has some curvature to help the finger to hook and pull better,
it is not as exaggerated as that of the CH 3504 but it takes.
With the knife already open in your hand we must to start talking about the
handle, I have already commented that it is made of steel, so therefore we can
not expect a big grip despite the texture with little circles that it brings,
the beauty of the "all in steel" it means less grip. But we must also
remember that one of the handle scales of the handle was going to be in steel
anyway because we are talking about a "frame lock". One thing that is
noted is that it weighs for its size, the reason is that it is all steel,
although the "liners" come somewhat hollow but without crossing at
all (normal if we do not have handle scales in G10 to cover the perforations).
The locking system is one of the best things, it is a thick "frame
lock" with a stabilizing disc, which makes it stronger because we
"divide" the "liner" of the "frame lock" into two
parts, with which it is much more strong and much harder than going to be bent
by either of those two parts. We also have a double block that we activate with
the same stabilizing disc since it is also a button on the side of the knife.
Nothing to object, quite the opposite, magnificent.
Open the knife I do not appreciate side or vertical play, opening anyway
with total smoothness. The blade brings a magnificent factory sharpening.
The pocket clip allows two positions, one on each side of the handle.
Final veredict
How many years with people begging Sanrenmu to make its prized folder knives
in larger sizes, they have taken, but the time has come.
The quality of the knife is "Sanrenmu quality" so nothing to say,
have been defined these new models of big size like folder knives of the level
of quality of Ruike (brand of premium range) but lowering the type of steel.
The sentence with which I must finish this review I think it is: "I
think it should not miss in your collection if you like Sanrenmu, at last the
dream that they manufactured in larger pieces has been fulfilled".
I hope to try other models more than what they have come out of large size,
quality of construction, materials used and finished first together with the
precious Sandvik 12C27 steel from Sanrenmu.
What I liked the most
- I loved that it has that perfect balance between blade retention and
opening smoothness. It is among the best I have tested.
- Its general aesthetic conveys beauty, like a jewel made of a knife,
everything in steel has to do with that sensation.
- Very good locking system: "frame lock" with stabilizing disc
and double locking. It is not easy to see pieces with double block.
- Magnificent finishes and construction, as well as materials used and of
course the beloved Sandvik 12C27 that is so famous in Sanrenmu.
- See knives made by Sanrenmu of large size is a dream that we can finally
say has come true.
What I liked less
- Not having a "jimping" or "hump" on the blade means
that it can not be grasped above the spine to have better control of the blade.
- The thumb studs are the same as those of the Land 910+ and 9104, I do not
like them because of their slippery shape.
