Introduction

Today I am happy to review a model that I have wanted to have in my hands for a long time. And it is not for less, it is the most powerful flashlight analyzed to date and it is also more oriented to the flooding than to the throwing. It's going to be very interesting.

Let us begin...

Design, appearance and build quality

I think it is one of those flashlights that you like its design as soon as you see it, with those heatsinks on the head, which, although they look good aesthetically, are going to be very necessary due to their power.

The body has a certain thickness, normal to have such a powerful battery, a 26650 of 5000 mah. If we want autonomy and power, the battery will be large; if the battery is large, the flashlight has to adapt to that size.

The grip is quite good thanks to the fluted body of the flashlight, and of course, being a "flooding" flashlight (although it also throws), it does not have a very large head, making it more portable than others that are more throwing.

As usual in the brand, the construction quality is good, as is the assembly, very smooth threads and no apparent imperfections in the body of the flashlight.

By the way, the size of the flashlight does not reach an EDC but come on, it is quite small for how powerful it is, we have a lot of light in the palm of our hand.

The lens, which is made of glass and not plastic, covers the reflector, which is of the "orange peel" type, which suits a floodlight very well, since it softens the transition between the central point "hot spot" and the outer halo.

As mentioned before, the power is provided by a 5000 mAh 26650 lithium battery (included) to power the XHP70.2 led, offering us a maximum of 4068 lumens with a “cool white” color temperature. Although we get many lumens, as it is flooding we will see very well around us or in front of us in closed environments at the cost of losing distance outdoors, but the 299-meter range is not bad.

The body of the flashlight is made of premium anodized aluminum type III waterproof IPX8 (up to 2 meters underwater) with anti-abrasive treatment on the surface and resistance to falls up to 1.5 meters.

In the package together with the flashlight itself, we have:

- A USB-C cable for charging the battery and thus being able to charge it without having to open it and remove the battery, apart from the fact that we do not need an external charger.

- Two replacement rubber washers.

- Side switch cover.

- Two USB connector covers (not all models of the brand come with two units).

- The always useful wrist strap.

- Battery 26650 of 5000 mAh.

- And one thing that always makes me happy: a good quality transport sheath.

I show you the sheath of an acceptable quality that it brings and that fits well in the shape and size of the flashlight. Sometimes there is a generic cover for several models at the same time, but in this brand I see that the sheath adapts to the shape and size of each model. I think the following photos give a very clear idea:

 

Handling and use

The grip is good, it does not slip along the lines that we have in the body of the flashlight, the size is good to carry a battery of this type, I mean that it is much smaller than its powerful and thowering sisters, the Catapult V6 and the Catapult PRO.

But one thing I have to complain about is that it rolls easily if we put it on a flat area, it rolls a lot as there is some incline and if it falls it is heavy enough to cause damage.

As the power of light and the modes that we have are a basic part of the management of a flashlight, we are going to observe the table of characteristics that the brand offers us:

The first thing that will attract attention is the "turbo" mode and its 4096 lumens, but turbo modes do not interest me much because they last between minutes and seconds. Although they certainly do sell more flashlights.

I prefer to see the sustained amount of light that we have available for quite some time. It is clear that the "turbo" modes cannot be active for a long time because the heat generated could damage the led, and the electronics will make it go down even after a few seconds of use.

In this case, we have 1853 lumens in high mode for 122 minutes, more than two hours, that's great. To which I would add the possibility in medium mode of 320 lumens for 9 hours. Of course the low or lower modes we would talk about for days, but I want to emphasize that the high and medium modes seem very usable and useful.

Undoubtedly one of the flashlights with the most powerful modes and time of use that we have seen on the blog, or the most.

The type of light that we have is flooding, which I love, but we also have a big central “hot spot” to throw something, the halo that floods us is bigger than the one on the Catapult V6 for example, and with a central point larger though less intense clear.

As for the number of modes, we have the 5 classic Thrunite modes, and as I often do, I see a somewhat large jump in lumens from high to medium mode.

We already know the differences between throwers and flooders and that there are tastes for everything. And we also know the pleasure of being able to see in the distance in the field with a thrower, but inside a house, a cave, some ruins, a building in the dark when you are rescuing people, etc. Well, with a thrower you don't see much around you, neither in intensity nor in amplitude, and even the central point can be so intense that even at low modes they reflect on white walls, metal, etc. making the vision unpleasant, while with a floodlight it is closer to turning on a led bulb that we had on the ceiling.

I personally love flooders, and I'm not even saying this is a pure flooder, since it also throws, but it's extremely nice to see this type of light indoors.

Once we are ready to use the flashlight as such, we will see the classic upper button of the brand, which is used to turn it on and off, as well as to change modes. The way of use is the same as in many other Thrunite models.

With the button pressed for a short space we turn on or off, the firefly mode is accessed only if we leave it pressed with the flashlight off. Once turned on, leaving it pressed we rotate through the modes, a double press takes us to turbo mode whether it is on or off, four presses would access strobe mode. Come on, the same way of working as many of the models of this brand.

As always, this Thrunite model also has a battery warning, with the typical colors of the brand, blue, red and red flashing, as it discharges. The flashlight's USB-C port allows us to charge the battery comfortably using any charger we have, mobile phones or any other device.

Final verdict

I have no doubt that it can be one of the best models of the brand. And it is that it is the most powerful model we have seen so far, and with a longer autonomy time with high light values, more than 2 hours at more than 1800 lumens.

I love how powerful it is and the sustained time that this light can be giving, also the size is much smaller (especially in terms of head) than its sisters Catapult V6 and Catapult PRO thanks to the fact that, as it floods much more than them and does not have to throw as much, we don't need such a big reflector.

This is one of the models in which Thrunite puts a lot of extra elements (even some repeated ones like the USB-C cover), which is also appreciated, especially the sheath.

The flashlight is very good at flooding, you will have a lot of light around you, and the beam covers more space than the so-called throwers, on the other hand, it will not throw as much, but it will reach almost 300 meters. It is a delight to be in a closed place in total darkness, put on the turbo mode and flood the area with light as if we had LED bulbs hanging from the ceiling. As you like flood flashlights, this can be your choice.

Things i love

- Attractive appearance, good grip and measured size to have that power and range of light.

- Sheath, bring a sheath, which is of a certain quality I like. Not all brands put sheaths on their flashlights.

- I highlight the power of more than 1800 lumens for more than two hours.

- Good finishes.

Things i would change

- The flashlight has a tendency to roll if you place it on a flat spot with a slight incline.

- It always happens to me with the Thrunite buttons, I wish they were bigger, and without that border that gets in the way when pressing said button.
