Review Y-Start Jin01
Introduction
When we reviewed the knife
Y-Start Lk5800 was a phrase that said:
“The Jin01 model on D2 steel from Y-Start also seems an
excellent model to be analyzed.”
I think the time has come…
There are knives that are
authentic tanks, very strong, very thick blades and strong tips for wood and
bushcraft tasks as the Ganzo G720 or G722, others more for self-defense, not as
robust but much more penetrating and with thin tips for piercing as the GanzoG712 or the own Y-start LK5008, brand sister. However, there are other types of
knives, not many as it seems, than are knives with a more classic style,
elegant, and are not designed (initially) for bushcraft or for self-defense. There
are situations that we want a knife that do not call much attention and that
will not scare people in a social time or any other susceptible to these issues
(camping, birthdays in the field in which not all people know us, walking with
friends...). Each type of knife is for a function, task and time ...
Exterior design and appearance
We continue with the talk in the
introduction, it is that the appearance of this knife is what we might call a
gentleman knife. It is a type of knife with classic touches, which does not
attract attention in excess of people, which is not offensive, intimidating or
aggressive,
Overview
I can only say that the knife is
a beauty and one of the most beautiful and elegant knife reviewed until now. We
can find it in different colors handles, black, orange, green, red and black,
orange and black and finally, blue and black, which is the one choosen. I like
very much the texture veined in blue and black, but is that in all colors this
knife looks great. The blade is only available in one version, satin D2 steel.
Its appearance is just the
opposite to that reviewed Y-Start LK5008, which is all aggressiveness and a
knife self-defense or combat type. In the Jin01 lines are nothing threatening,
with a classic "drop point" blade and full flat grind, along with a
big belly, which makes it even less threatening to not be therefore very pointy
and inviting to cut more than puncture.
Blade detail
With dimensions of 22.5 cm
length, 9.5 long blade with 3 cm width and 4 mm thick with 160 grams on the
same scale of always. It's a real beast to be a "gentleman knife",
but is that this knife is more than it seems. It looks like a gentleman knife
but is as strong and big as a tactic, but without its aggressive look.
The blade is made of D2 steel, the
highest range steel reviewed until now. D2 steel does not resist corrosion as
well as other stainless steels but has high hardness and wear resistance.
Although due to that hardness that has, which makes it to retain very well the
edge, it is not recommended bend levering because it can break more easily than
other softer steels.
Perfectly centered and thick blade
The handle also features a
marbled in blue and black in G10 revealing a bit the "liners" below
and finishing in a hole for cord directly into the steel, uncovered by the G10
scale. In addition there is a small jimping under the handle, one above and one
directly on the blade, being the handle’s jimping rather aesthetics.

Lanyard hole
The locking system used is a
"liner lock", being quite wide and that gives confidence. All the
steel "liners" of the folder knife are exquisitely polished and
smoothed, it is a delight.
Locking system detail
Finally to say, and I know that
this issue has created some controversy in this model, that it does not bring
"pocket clip". This may be important for some, not for others. In my
opinion, the knife gives you so many other things, that the absence of clip
does not mean much.
Handling and use
With the knife in the hand, the
feeling is very good, the grip of the G10 is very very soft, just have relief
and handle, fairly straight, is ergonomic enough. The jijmping of the blade
does not have an excessive angle, but neither is flat, it has a good angular
balance and adapts well to the finger when you make pressure, it has also very
aggressive steps. I like very much.
Detail of aggressive jimping
One of the things that some may
ask is, if it hasn’t a "pocket clip" how i transport it?, well, i can
think of lots of ways, for me it is not so important that takes it. You can
simply put it in his trouser pocket, or in a backpack pocket or put it in a
holster and pass a belt, or put it in the holster and put it into the pocket...
There is not vertical or
horizontal blade play, good fit and finish. The opening is fairly smooth with
metal washers.
Both metal washers
Final verdict
A knife that is a classic beauty,
G10 of the handle is a delight, a price very content for what it offers, strong
as a tactical knife, high-end D2 steel, a very respectable size, a solid system
lock, elegance and beauty together in one package...
Need I say more?
Gentlemen, the folder knife is
impressive.
Pros
- D2 steel in a knife at this price?
get me one please...
- One of the most beautiful
knives reviewed. A preciousness.
- For some situations it is
perfect, it does not call attention because it haven’t such aggressive look as others. For every occasion there is a knife.
- Price very content, competing
with others in the same price that offer less.
- It is a very strong
construction knife and with a thick and reliable "liner lock".
Cons
- Some do not like that it
doesn’t bring a pocket clip. A tip: do not stop due to that to acquire it.

Y-Start Jin01 Blue and black:
You can also choose other colors in the shop.
Salutation!.
