Review Thrunite TC15 V3

 Review Thrunite TC15 V3

Introduction

Hyper-powerful flashlights are great, but don't forget about their size and weight (eg using heavy batteries). But you have to think that sometimes we simply want an EDC flashlight, that we can carry with us, and that is powerful but with a controlled size and weight.

I think this flashlight fits this requirement, let's see...

Design, appearance and build quality

A design that is still an EDC flashlight for me, partly thanks to the fact that it only uses a 18650 battery, which are not very large.

The grip is not bad thanks to the fluted body of the flashlight, but curiously, it does not surround the entire body, but only a part, I think it would have been better to put it whole. There is an absence of heatsinks on the head, it's a shame because apart from having an important function, I tend to like them aesthetically as well.

One thing that I liked and it shows a difference with other flashlights is that when you put it somewhere it does not roll, it is very stable because the upper rounded part has flat areas, it is very very stable placed on a flat surface.

As usual in the brand, the construction quality is good, as is the assembly, smooth threads and no apparent imperfections in the body of the flashlight.

If we talk about the reflector, we have one of the "orange peel" type, which allows a more diffuse and less focused beam on a concentrated central point. It is designed to have a balance between caster and flooder, and to me the flooder character is more EDC and indoor. Although of course it launches enough to take it outside with its 223 meters of light distance. When a flashlight with more than 2400 lumens "only" reaches 223 meters, it is because the light is scattered on the sides, and that means flooding, so logically there is less light to throw. For interiors I want to flood, not throw.

Power is provided by a 3100 mAh IMR 18650 lithium battery (included) to power the XHP35 led, which can reach 2403 lumens with a neutral white color temperature, which is one of the most desired by people, having a range as we have commented of 223 meters.

The body of the flashlight is made of aluminum with anodized premium type III waterproof IPX8 (up to 2 meters underwater) and resistance to falls up to 1.5 meters. Something that is usually common in this brand.

In the package that reaches us, apart from the flashlight itself, we have:

- A USB-C cable for charging the battery, a very favorable point to be able to charge it without having to open it and remove the battery, apart from the fact that we do not need an external charger.

- Two replacement rubber washers.

- A USB connector cover.

- The always useful wrist strap.

- IMR 18650 3100 mAh battery.

- Replacement side switch cover.

- Detachable pocket clip.

- And something that is not usually seen in other brands: a sheath of acceptable quality for transport.

Regarding the measures we find:

Handling and use

Speaking of handling and use, we are going to base ourselves on the table of characteristics that the brand offers us:

Taking into account the small size and weight of the flashlight, one of the things that you can call in principle is that it can offer us 2403 lumens in turbo mode, but as I always say, that is very good but you have to look at how many sustained lumens it can give us .

It must be taken into account that the smaller a body is, the less space there is to disperse heat, and the LED can fry itself if the temperature is too high.

Looking at the chart we see that we can have 754 lumens for 108 minutes, which is very good for an EDC of this size and weight.

The type of light beam, I would define it as balanced between thrower and flooder, which I like, although in an EDC I always look for it to be as flooding as possible (although it also throws).

The truth is that I like the structure of the light that it offers, the "hot spor" is not defined but softened and with good flooding, I think this type of light is great for an EDC.

The 5 modes that we have plus the "strobe" are the classic Thrunite modes, we can see them above in the characteristics table, the power jumps between one and the other seem balanced to me.

I think this flashlight can be quite versatile, good for indoors due to its flood but also perfectly usable for outdoors due to its power.

We have a top button that is used to turn it on and off, as well as to change modes. The way of use is the same as other Thrunite models and similar to other brands:

With the flashlight off, with a short press we turn it on and off, if we keep the button pressed we go to "firefly" mode.

With the flashlight on, by holding down the button we go through the low, medium and high modes, and by double pressing we go to turbo mode. Triple pressing takes us to the “strobe” mode.

As always in Thrunite, it also has a battery warning, with the classic colors of the brand, blue, red and red flashing, as it discharges. The flashlight's USB-C port allows us to charge the battery comfortably using any charger that we have from a mobile phone or any device that we have with USB charging (whether or not it is USB-C because the cable is independent of the charger).

In the following screenshots we can see the low, medium and high modes, the differences may not be well appreciated due to camera sensor issues, but in reality they can be seen:

The sheath is one of those details that I always like about the brand, with an acceptable manufacturing quality that helps to carry and protect the flashlight.

Final verdict

Well, my assessment can only be positive, since it is a small and light flashlight (within reason, of course there are smaller ones) and with a fairly good power. Above all, I am interested in the more than 754 sustained lumens for 108 minutes, apart from the more than 2400 lumens for a few minutes for very specific things.

Another thing that I always like about Thrunite flashlights is that they usually come in a fairly complete pack, and this is no exception. I'm talking about bringing a sheath, a spare for the USB cover, rubber washers, the wrist strap, etc.

And finally, that it is balanced between throwing and flooding and with that pleasant "hot spot" softened with the "orange peel" reflector, I think it is one of the keys to this flashlight.

Things i love

- Good balance between throw and flood and its orange peel reflector.

- Sheath, bring a sheath, which is of a certain quality I like. Not all brands put holsters on their flashlights.

- Great power for that size and weight and a significant amount of sustained lumens for more than an hour and a half.

Things i would change

- Although it has a good balance between flooding and throwing, I would make it even more flooding, which is what I prefer for an EDC, but this is just personal preference.

- It always happens to me with the Thrunite buttons, I wish they were bigger, and without that border that gets in the way when pressing said button.
